The Grand Dancesport Cup, a junior and amateur event in New York has been discontinued. One of the organizers, Alex Chmerkovskiy (father of Maxim & Valentin) writes below.
To our friends, colleagues, associates and supporters of "Grand Dance Sport Cup,"
For many years, the doors of The Grand Prospect Hall have been opened to welcome, acknowledge, and embrace the talents and desires of the leading junior, youth, and adult Ballroom Dance competitors in the United States.
With heavy hearts and an emptiness our souls, we regret to inform our competitors that we will no longer be hosting the "Grand Dance Sport Cup."
After thorough deliberation, we concluded that this is the right decision.
We have always stood proudly on our own, independent of the influence of any existing organization. We do not believe in nor have we participated in industry politics. In the midst of recent political turmoil and the questioning of our "lack of affiliation," we have decided that it would be best to remove ourselves from the equation altogether.
Thank you so much for supporting, appreciating, and giving us the opportunity to grow and the chance to be a part of your lives.
We hope we have made a lasting impact on this generation of America’s Ballroom Dance youth, and we truly hope we have brought you all as much happiness, as your enthusiasm has brought us.
We wish all of our participants the best of luck in reaching their goals, and we would like to thank them sincerely for being with us as long as they have.
We would especially like to thank all of the officials that dedicated countless hours of time and immeasurable amounts of effort to running GDSC.
Life may change, but the memories shall always remain ours!
