“You need new clothes.” “Those pants are falling off of you.” “OK, you can’t wear that suit to work again!” Well, not to fear, I’m now proud to say after losing 40 pounds, I have new garments! I spent a day at the store, purchased 5 new suits and tons of new shirts and ties. I see my old dance photos on Facebook, and I’m shocked to see that big man in the pictures, and the new me in the now!
New Clothes: “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colors.” The story of Joseph’s coat has continued even to today, and popularized by the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Joseph’s father, Jacob, favored him and gave Joseph the coat as a gift; as a result, he was envied by his brothers, who saw the special coat as an indication that Joseph would assume family leadership. In today’s time, I have found the same result in purchasing new clothes. When I walked into the Arthur Murray Studio with my new shape and new suits, I was greeted with respect and admiration as a confident and successful leader.
When we go through a positive change in our lives, others see that change and want to join us in our success and learn our secrets. They say, “I’m so proud of you! I want to do the same in my life.” “How did you do it?” “You look great!”
Now, after a year of losing weight, including having all my ups and downs, I have found that I am accountable for my own success. Also, I am responsible for encouraging others around me. It took a year, but I am even seeing others around me losing weight, beginning their exercise programs and buying their own new clothes.
On the other hand, I have seen others go the opposite way. I stand strong and realize that we are all on our own journeys in life, and we make our own decisions at the right times. I know that my triumphs or failures will affect others and their respect and belief in me. The job of maintaining Health and Fitness remains a priority to me in continuing to inspire and encourage others.
Make the first move. Be the first one to drop a few pounds. Be the first to come in with a new coat of many colors. Be the first to make a positive change in your life and be prepared to encourage and inspire others around you. As the saying goes “Many are called but few are chosen”. Hear the calling in life for success and then choose to share your successes with others. Your life will be richer in ways you cannot imagine!
Next week, David and Goliath!
Very Sincerely,
David Woodbury
