If you’re going to do it, live it and love it!
“After I lose weight, then I’ll be happy”. “If I just had some more money and time off, I’d feel better”. “No wonder they’re happy, they have all the luck, and look at all the stuff they have”. “I just need a vacation, then I’ll be OK”. Ever heard these things or thought them? Sometimes it’s as if happiness is just around the corner, but our happiness is right now, in the present, just where we are.
A wonderful friend recently told me, “If you are going to hate your weight loss journey and complain about it all the time, DON’T DO IT!” She encouraged me to enjoy each moment and to realize that I was making a lifestyle change. Since January 1st 2011, I have lost 35 pounds. I have 15 more to go to reach my goal of 200 lbs (I’m going to hit 198 for good luck). It has been an exciting experience, and one that I’m happy to share with others.
Now, I have decided to enjoy the journey. Instead of complaining all the time and “suffering” during my weight loss, I have chosen to “Count My Blessings” each and every day. I have my faith, family, career, health, and passion for life. There are so many things I can be happy about and I choose to think about those things. Our thoughts shape our lives and our words determine our actions.
If you think happiness is based on circumstances or luck, it is not. Happiness is a daily habit. Happiness is a decision and a choice. I will not be any happier after losing 15 more pounds than I am today because I have decided to enjoy the journey and to BE HAPPY NOW. Thin or thick, I will have a heart of gratitude.
You may experience exhilarating highs, and debilitating lows, but if you had to choose, would you want to go through a day without feeling emotions? I’d rather feel all of what this journey has to offer me, than to go through each moment with my senses dulled and my heart unfeeling.
Being Happy, it sounds like a cliché, but it’s for real. It’s a decision. It’s a habit. It’s a way of life. Enjoy the journey. We’ll all have tough tests in life, but in between the hard times, experience good health and fitness, experience the joy of dancing, and remember to laugh a little and love a lot.
Next Week: Being Enthusiastic!
Very Sincerely,
David Woodbury
